Cask sample. Real sweetness on the nose and front – flowers and nougat and Turkish delight, dried rose petals and hibiscus. A jigsaw puzzle of flavours and soft yet emphatic, curl-curve-cut tannins. This has real glow. Persistent glow and sweetness hazing into ethereal, fine-haze bitterness. Lovely stemmy savouriness and herb stems woven into the tannins. The weave of tannins is superb. A beauty. Lift and soar on the finish. (TC)
The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is a more tightly wound Les Petit-Monts, but it unfolds with touches of dark berry fruit, cola and wilted rose petal, with more blue fruit surfacing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins. Some wood tannins are evident but will be subsumed with time. This is a Les Amoureuses that will require time, with light peppery notes toward the rounded, quite persistent finish.
Like many of the wines in the range, this too is exuberantly floral with its airy, ripe and elegant aromas of black cherry, kirsch and exotic jasmine tea. The succulent, rich and overtly mineral-driven flavors possess bright acidity on the balanced and sappy finish that is also shaped by dense but fine-grained tannins. This is quintessential Amoureuses and a wine of lace, grace and class.
A slightly more sombre crimson purple. Evident whole bunches with crushed strawberries. Softly sensual on the palate, builds nicely to the back, some rose petals too. Very long and classy after all. Softer than some but with luscious appeal. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.
