Lovely sliced apple, salted almond, fresh fig, orange citrus and bread dough aromas waft from the glass. It’s dry, chalky and mineral on the palate, but open, juicy and supple, with very soft bubbles. Wonderfully salty at the end, showing a mouthwatering savoriness. 50% pinot noir and 50% chardonnay, from the six founding crus of the house: Avize, Chouilly, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay and Verzy. Dosage: 2.5g/L. Drink or hold.
50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir. A blend of Henriot’s six original founding grands crus: Verzy, Verzenay, Mailly-Champagne in Montagne de Reims and Avize, Chouilly, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in Côte des Blancs. Aged for 10 years on lees. Dosage 2.5 g/l.
Exceptionally fine bead. Piercingly direct nose that seems Chardonnay-dominated backed up by a really satisfying, more Pinot-esque depth of flavour. Satisfying is the word for this tightly-knit, complex wine. A champagne to linger over. Chapeau, chef de cave Alice Tétienne! It should develop even more complexity but I’d be inclined to drink it now. Jancis Robinson
