Vincent Girardin's Meursault Les Perrières 2024 is a white Premier Cru from the Côte de Beaune from grapes harvested from old vines. These grapes were grown in a vineyard owned by Domaine Ampeau; planted in 1949, this vineyard is known to always ripen early. In the Côte de Beaune region of Chardonnay, not only was it an unusually wet season with spring and summer rainfall reaching about twice the usual amount, but this was compounded by poor flowering and the threat of downy mildew, resulting in a yield reduction of approximately 10-20% for Chardonnay across the entire Côte de Beaune region.

However, the first two weeks of August featured warm, dry weather that accelerated ripening, and harvesting continued into the latter part of September, in a short, clear window.

In the wine cellar, a restrained approach was taken. They reduced the use of new oak barrels compared to usual and reserved the cleanest fine lees for aging. The resulting Perrières is built on notes of white fruit and crushed limestone, offering a flinty sharpness rather than a pronounced weight. It is sleeker than the typical, fuller-bodied style of Meursault, and that makes it all the more exceptional.

It is best enjoyed between 2027 and 2038. Serve at 12-13°C.
