From 50-year-old vines in the Hautes-Côtes, Pierre Yves-Colin's 2019 Bourgogne Aligoté offers up aromas of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and beeswax. Medium-bodied, fleshy and incisive, it's bright and elegantly fleshy, with a nicely defined, saline finish.
350-litre barrels but not new. Bottled two days before this tasting (mid November). 'People are getting more interested in Aligoté', says Colin-Morey. 'Since 2017 we keep the grapes', from his own 55-year-old vines in Cormot in the Hautes-Côtes. Slightly pink skins. Unfiltered. No stirring on this or any of his whites.
Herbal steely nose, a touch of pear. Tight, piercing freshness with a lovely herbal direction. Long and tight. Steely finish. (JH)
