Richebourg 2023, derived from Méo-Camuzet, is a red Grand Cru from Vosne-Romanée; it belongs to the Côte de Nuits and, like all Richebourg, is a pure Pinot Noir. The year 2023 presented growers with a problem that most years would envy: the emergence of extremely high yield potential just as the July season was coming to a close. The entire workforce had to be mobilized to carry out green harvesting for three weeks in order to reduce the yield to the desired level. The harvest took place in warm weather from around the 5th or 6th to the 15th of September. The heatwave had rapidly accelerated ripening, and the grapes had swollen due to a heavy thunderstorm at the end of August. The sorting process was the most challenging part. There were rotten spots here and there, and many grapes had more or less dried out, but there were no unripe grapes. In the winery, we shortened the cold soak period, lowered the fermentation temperature slightly, and proceeded with the extraction process as usual; some saignée (a process where part of the juice is drawn off to concentrate the remaining juice) was necessary. The sugar content was high. As a result, Richebourg was born, a wine characterized more by its body and ripe fruit aromas than by austerity.
