The Domaine Tortochot Morey-Saint-Denis, produced during a vintage that proved to be a challenge for Burgundy’s winemakers. In the spring, the entire Côte de Nuits region faced the threat of powdery mildew and uneven flowering, which led to lower yields. The organic farming practices employed by Chantal Michel-Tortochot, along with the traditional “green harvest” in August, paid off here. To enhance freshness, about 25% of the grapes were processed as whole clusters, which helped highlight the fresh character typical of the Pinot Noir variety. The optimal drinking window is from 2026 to 2036.
Pale cherry red. Pure fruit flavours but a bit tart on the end. Chiselled. A little hollow on the mid palate. (JR)
The 2024 Morey-Saint-Denis Village has a very agreeable, quite Chambolle-like bouquet with brambly red fruit, undergrowth and light cigar box scents. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, very malleable in the mouth with a simple finish that just lacks a bit of grip and substance. Drink in its youth.
