In 2024, Burgundy faced cool and rainy weather, as well as the threat of serious diseases, which led to a challenging growing season, forcing winemakers to make ruthless selections during the harvest. At the Domaine Tortochot winery, the Lavaux-Saint-Jacques plot was able to capitalize on its natural advantages. This plot is located in a cooler and well-ventilated corner of Gevrey-Chambertin, which helped keep the grapes healthy. Chantal Michel-Tortochot remained true to her traditional winemaking methods, low-temperature maceration, the use of natural yeasts, and the fermentation of about a quarter of the grapes as whole clusters. Compared to recent warm vintages, one can expect “Lavaux-Saint-Jacques” to be more firm, with pronounced minerality.
