In 2024, Burgundy’s winemakers faced a difficult growing season. From spring through summer, the weather remained damp and cool, and due to the threat of powdery mildew, many domaines were forced to significantly thin their crops. From seven rows of old vines on the Clos de Vougeot plot, Domaine Tortochot managed to harvest a yield that was extremely small even by the estate’s usual standards (an average of about 3 barrels per year). Chantal Michel-Tortochot, seeking to emphasize the wine’s freshness, employed the method of selecting whole clusters, using approximately 25% of the harvest for winemaking. The 2024 vintage is expected to be less of a powerful wine andwith a lighter structure and a rich mineral character. It is best enjoyed between 2027 and 2038.
