The 2023 Echezeaux Grand Cru is one of the bigger, more exuberant wines in the cellar, bursting with aromas of smoky plums, smoked duck, spices and orange zest. Full-bodied, broad and fleshy, it's layered and concentrated, with a long, saline finish.
Cask sample. Mid ruby. Pure, sophisticated and elegant. Soft red fruits on the nose and palate, red cherries, strawberry and raspberry. Seamless tannins and fine, filigree acidity. Very good. (MH)
An exuberantly spicy nose of exotic jasmine tea, dried orange peel, black cherry, plum and soft wood precedes lilting and ultra-fine flavors that retain excellent precision on the powerful finish that tightens up markedly on the firm, long and very serious finale. Despite not being a monster of concentration, this is also clearly going to need time in bottle to realize its considerable potential.
Almost 100% whole bunch vinification for the Echezeaux. A beautiful vivid ruby purple. The nose is deliciously perfumed, a wine very much at ease with itself. Equally gracious on the palate, delivering a silky red fruit with refined tannins, and excellent persistence. Jeremy notes that they only really began to discover the hoped for silkiness in the Echezeaux after conversion to biodynamic farming – which for this vineyard began in 2001.
