The 2022 Richebourg Grand Cru has turned out beautifully. It wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet plums and raspberry preserves mingled with notions of pipe tobacco, exotic spices and orange zest and is framed by a deft touch of classy new oak. Lightish cherry red. As in the Romanée-St-Vivant, the finest of peppery impressions. A little more floral, a little more stemmy freshness on first encounter. More marked by the stems than the Romanée-St-Vivant. Great intensity and a flush of fruit sweetness on the palate, a firmer tannin structure, filled out by crunchy dark-red fruit. Masses of energy and tension. Sinewy, finely tannic, lean build but clothed in energetic fruit. Vivid, stretched tight across the framework. Needs a little more time than the Romanée-St-Vivant. (JH)

The 2022 Richebourg Grand Cru is magnificent. And I say that as someone who at times struggles to connect with this site. Not this year. Sepia-toned, ample and layered, with mind-blowing balance, the 2022 offers up an exotic mélange of black fruit, gravel, incense, licorice, new leather and whole cluster savoriness, all with its usual reserve of power. The 2022 is quite simply one of the best Richebourgs in recent memory. For those who can, don't miss it!

A little deeper and darker in crimson colour. The nose has a solidity of concentrated fruit as befits Richebourg, without sacrificing class. Powerful dark raspberry along with the deepest red but not black cherry. Perfect ripeness. Sensuality with a high-class backbone, the velvet texture invigorated by the lift of the whole bunches. Exceptionally long.
