Gevrey Chambertin 2020 Claude Dugat

Claude Dugat's Gevrey Chambertin 2020 is a village-level red wine produced in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côte de Nuits region, and is made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes. Since this wine is produced from 10 small vineyards scattered throughout the commune, including part of the village district of La Bossière, it serves as a snapshot of the entire appellation rather than representing a single vineyard. Winemaking here is carried out with great care. The grapes are completely destemmed, and the must undergoes a cap punching process twice a day, where the floating skins are pushed into the juice without the use of pumps. This village wine is aged in roughly one-third to half new oak barrels. With an alcohol content of 13%, it is an elegant wine. The key lies in its tightness. The 2020 growing season across the Burgundy region was warm and dry, and with the season starting early, France saw one of the earliest harvests on record. The harvested grapes had low malic acid and high tartaric acid levels; of these two acids, tartaric acid is the more structured one. This manifests as liveliness rather than heaviness. When opening a young bottle, allow it to breathe a bit longer. It will be at its best for enjoyment through 2038.
