Château Figeac 2022 is a red wine, the Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A, and marks the first vintage that the Manoncourt family has bottled at this highest classification. It is therefore quite fitting that the growing season that year was unlike anything they had ever experienced before. From late May onward, above-average temperatures and drought persisted, and veraison (the period when the grapes change color) spread across the entire vineyard starting in late June, and the harvest began on September 1st, the earliest harvest date in the 130 years the family has owned this vineyard. Thanks to light rainfall in June and August and cool nighttime temperatures, the vines were able to continue their growth steadily without interruption.

Saint-Emilion weathered 2022 better than most and was the only major Bordeaux appellation to record an above-average yield. In Figeac, the gravelly and clay soils provided balance to the wine as they always do. This is the second vintage produced at the new winery, and you can clearly see the difference in how distinctly each vineyard's characteristics are expressed in the glass. The bottled wine is a well-ripened, deep-colored Figeac that still fully embodies the characteristics of the winery's Cabernet-driven line, which is known for its bright, lively notes. Despite the warm year, it is not a heavy wine.
