The 2019 Château du Tertre is a red wine from Margaux, grown on one of the highest gravel hills in this commune, where growing conditions were simply ideal for this plot. Weather conditions from January through March were close to the annual average. By April, it had become cooler and more humid. Frosts occurred on the nights of the 13th and 14th, and again on May, the 5th and 6th, but the damage was localized and did not affect the entire region. May and June saw less sunshine and higher precipitation. Flowering began at the end of May.
After that, the weather pattern for the year changed. During Bordeaux, there were at least five days when temperatures exceeded 35 °C; in particular, on the 23rd of July, the temperature approached 40 °C, but the rainfall on the 16th and 26th of July came at just the right time to keep the grapevines growing. Light rainfall in August and September promoted the phenolic ripening of the fruit, and the harvest took place under very good conditions.
On the Left Bank, the relatively cool, clay-rich soil preserved the freshness of the 2019 fruit, while in the predominantly gravelly plots, the fruit ripened further, yielding a rich, full-bodied character. Du Tertre is situated on gravelly soil. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, this wine remains within the range of a classic approach for this level of ripeness and does not seek to be overly rich.
It is worth noting that the 2019 vintage of Bordeaux was released during the first lockdown associated with Covid, so the market did not have time to react immediately.

The 2019 du Tertre opens in the glass with aromas of sweet cassis and plums mingled with undergrowth, cedarwood, violets and subtle hints of cigar wrapper. Medium-bodied, bright and integrated, with a nicely concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and fine, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish, it delivers a certain generosity of fruit in a fine-boned package. Even if this numbers among the more powerful du Tertre vintages of recent years, it remains a wine defined by elegance more than impact.

Beautiful purity of fruit here with currant and berry aromas, as well as fresh roses and other flowers. Citrus peel as well. Full-bodied with creamy and lightly velvety tannins that are long and beautiful. Hints of citrus to the lovely fruit. Textured and polished. A blend of 54% cabernet sauvignon, 27% merlot, 13% cabernet franc and 6% petit verdot.
