Bolgheri Rosso DOC, red, Cabernet-led: This is Bruciato 2024 from Antinori's Tenuta Guado al Tasso, located right on the coast of Tuscany. Cabernet Sauvignon leads, with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Petit Verdot surrounding it. Fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 28-30°C for approximately 20 days, with a portion of the Merlot and Syrah must kept at a lower temperature to preserve the varietal aromas. Malolactic fermentation takes place partly in barriques (small French oak barrels) and partly in tanks. The wine is then aged in barriques for at least six months before bottling. Since this wine is meant to be enjoyed young, it undergoes a deliberately short aging period.
A mild and wet winter led to budbreak occurring around ten days earlier than usual, whilst a cool and rainy spring ensured a prolonged and even flowering period. The rain also replenished groundwater reserves, enabling the vineyards to weather the hot and dry summer without stress. The harvest took place in warm weather from late August onwards: Merlot was harvested first, and Cabernet Sauvignon last; the harvest was completed by the end of September, with only occasional rain to contend with. Sugar and acidity levels proved to be well-balanced, and the winery regards this vintage as fresher and more expressive than in recent years. It is precisely this freshness that allows the wine to be enjoyed whilst still young, without it tasting ‘watery’.
It is best enjoyed by 2036.
