In 2019, Burgundy experienced a hot and dry summer, which led to lower yields throughout the Côte de Beaune. The berries were small, the juice was concentrated, and the wine’s natural alcohol content was high. In the case of André Goichot’s “Meursault La Pièce-sous-le-Bois Premier Cru,” this resulted in a richer and more intense expression of the Chardonnay variety, one that is unattainable in cooler vintages. “La Pièce-sous-le-Bois” is located in the Branay area of Meursault, and this plot is known for wines with a firmer backbone and structure. The 2019 vintage brought a density of fruit notes to this structure that perfectly complements it.
