Harlan Estate
Based in the western hills of Oakville (California), the Harlan Estate was founded by H. William (Bill) Harlan in 1984 and covers almost 100 Ha of land, but only 17 Ha are planted with vines (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot).
Bill’s mission is to create a wine of the highest quality and great longevity, in other words: To produce a “First Growth” in California. 1990 was the first vintage (released in 1996) and was then sold for only $ 65.
Because of the limited production of only 1800 cases, and the various 100 point reviews by Robert Parker, the wines have a cult status on the international wine market.
The beautiful label of Harlan Estate has been derived from a 19th century engraving. The style of Harlan Estate is characterized by power, great complexity, luxuriant richness and the capability to age for over 20 years.
In 1999 the second wine of the estate was released. This wine from the vintage 1995 was a result of an even more strict selection process in the vineyard in favour of the “first wine”. The name of this second wine is “The Maiden” with an average of only 900 cases, this wine is also very much sought after. The vintages which received 100 points by Robert Parker are: 1994, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2007 & 2013.
