Realm Cellars is located in the southern part of the Napa Valley in California. The winery has been working its way to the top of the wine world ever since its first vintage in 2002.
Realm Cellars initially started with buying grapes from other winegrowers. Those winegrowers were carefully selected, to guarantee the quality of the fruit. By now, the winery has its own vineyards and the bunches come from various premium plots in the Stags Leap district. The plots of Dr. Crane, Farela and To Kalon are highly regarded in the region and are considered cru vineyards for a reason.
The focus is on producing premium wines with Bordeaux grape varieties. These varieties are cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. The winery produces blends as well as monocépages. In 2011, the first wine that was made by the current winemaker, Benoit Touquette, came on the market. Benoit was born in Bordeaux, which is also where he completed a master's degree in Oenology and Chemistry at the University of Bordeaux. Benoit knows what he's doing! A total of twelve different wines are produced, divided into the following categories: proprietary blends, estate wines and single vineyards. The Tempest, The Absurd and The Bard are the most famous blends. Of the single vineyard wines, the most famous are the Beckstofer To Kalon and the Houyi. All wines age in wooden barrels. The duration varies per vintage and cuvée.
Length, complexity, and good aging potential are primary characteristics of each cuvée. Moreover, the wines are very rare. Only 2,000 bottles of some wines are produced per year. The wines usually receive high score from renowned journalists. The most memorable moment was when the Beckstofer to Kalon 2018 was awarded 100 (!) Parker points!Read more
