My score may be more generous than this wine merits. My tasting notes do not support a rating this high, as I thought the wine to be coarse and tannic, with hot alcohol in the finish. However, it displays a gorgeously complex, fragrant nose of spices and red and black fruits. As the wine sat in the glass, some madierized notes emerged. High acid and an absence of tannin give the wine a hard, tough, rustic personality. It is a wine with more value at auction than in a consumption sense.
