The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru finished its malolactic earlier than other cuvées this year and there is a tiny stem addition in the final blend. It has a well-defined, quite pure and floral bouquet that gains intensity in the glass. The palate is quite dense on the entry, sinewy in the mouth with crunchy red and black fruit, a little hardness towards the finish, although that will soften by the time of bottling. This is a classy, quite sophisticated Clos de Vougeot, although I found more flair expressed by the Echézeaux at the moment.
Like a distillation of cherry, blueberry and rose aromas and flavors, this balanced red is both intense and ethereal, with the aftertaste leaving a haunting elegy of the essence of place. Continues to unfold in layers on the long, mineral- and spice-infused finish.?
