Laurent Ponsot is a modern winery in the heart of Burgundy. Laurent Ponsot does not specifically position himself as a domaine or maison, but rather – to put it in his own words – as an “haute-couture négociant” who also owns his own vineyards.
Laurent cultivates a total of seven hectares, spread over a number of different appellations. At Laurent Ponsot, they are faithful to nature and work as environmentally friendly as possible with only the slighest possible use of modern pest control methods. However, because of this the winery has no official organic certification.
In addition to cultvating its own vineyards, the winery works closely together with grape growers from the area. The quality of the supplied grapes determines which winegrowers the winery works with. It is sometimes wrongly assumed that this way of working produces wines of lower quality, but Laurent clearly disproves this idea with his compelling portfolio and proves that via the négociant method (purchasing grapes for making your wines) wines of particularly high quality can be made.
Laurent Ponsot produces a wide range of wines from different appellations within Burgundy. The most important are: Chambolle-Musigny, Meursault, Griotte-Chambertin and Gevrey-Chambertin. All wines have their own character and style, but all are of the same high quality.
As mentioned before, Laurent Ponsont is a state-of-the-art winery. The Laurent Ponsot wines have an unusual appearance, especially for Burgundy. The bottles have a futuristic-looking label, in metallic silver and light green with a synthetic closure instead of a cork. To prevent counterfeiting, the bottles are equipped with microchips and the temperature of the wine can be checked for up to 15 years by sensors that are built into the box. This way, the buyer can be sure that the wine has been transported and stored at the correct temperature.
