The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has an expressive nose, again, a little earthier in style, complementing the mainly red fruit. Harmonious, though not powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Quite "strict" for a Vosne-Romanée, linear in style with what some might regard as a conservative finish. It is classic in style and will drink over the next 12 to 15 years.
The perfumed essence of red currant, anise, sandalwood and a similar hint of exotic spiced tea gives way to round, supple and caressing medium-bodied flavors that are less mineral driven on the equally austere and beautifully long and balanced finale. This could use better depth so at least a few years of cellaring should be helpful in this regard.
No more than medium deep red crimson but the nose is beautiful, very expressive, all in a ripe enough red fruit. The 1er cru aspect shows in the concentrated red fruit behind. Pleasing length, everything in place: “that makes it a few years since the Chaumes began to take on intelligence and sophistication” offers Etienne. Drink from 2030-2038.
