A discreet application of wood sets off the very spicy, in particular clove and anise, aromas of violet, plum and red currant. The powerful and markedly more concentrated broad-shouldered flavors exude a subtle minerality on the succulent yet very firmly structured finale that exhibits excellent length. While this should age gracefully for years to come it's not so backward that it couldn't be enjoyed after 5-ish years.
The Lamarches have two plots: more stones in the top plot, a bit more weight below but not much difference and they are picked together. There is a little more colour pink and purple together, and some pure and elegant fruit on the nose. The oak speaks a little bit more loudly but there is easily enough fruit to match, ripe raspberry with a nice little tickle of acidity. More substantial than the preceding wines. No more oak here just how its showing today. Tasted: November 2019.
Cask sample. Transparent crimson. Lively and flirtatious –and rather relaxed. As though not trying too hard. Just a little inky and demanding on the end but I like the style. Rather ‘cool.’
