The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru les Brouillards felt a little raw on the nose, especially following the fleshier les Angles. The palate is better with taut tannins and a core of strawberry and raspberry fruit, but it attenuates toward the finish. Hopefully it will gain some flesh by the end of its maturation.
Spicy, peppery and very savoury. Very hard tannic structure: tough, chewy and sinuous. Needs plenty of time to soften, but the flavours may always be on the austere side.
