Les Lavieres is an elegant wine from Nuits St.-Georges. It has a deep ruby red color, a round, medium-bodied texture, and excellent ripe fruit. The overall impression is one of lightness and elegance in a more delicate style than Les Allots. The 1988 vintage attests to a remarkably auspicious start for the new Domaine Leroy in Vosne-Romanee.
Big, tart and dense, with cherry, cedar and meat flavors and an unfortunate hint of sauerkraut, hinting at stemminess on the tannic finish. Definitely harsh at this point; needs at least until 1994 or '95 to settle down. Tough to judge, but it might come around.
