Another lackluster if not downright poor vintage characterized by a cool September and rain during the harvest. Heavy bricking but there is more color here than one would reasonably expect for the vintage. A lovely nose of rose petal, sous-bois, smoke and a hint of animale introduces reasonably voluminous flavors that possess a slightly lean quality on the linear and direct finish that manages to avoid any sense of aggressive dryness or harshness. Actually, this is easy to like and while the supporting structure is largely resolved, the overall impression is one of a certain vibrancy, especially relative to the average '74 today. A success for the vintage and personally, I would be looking for reasons to open this sooner than later.
