A mix of black cherry, oak spice and exotic woods—think sandalwood—aromas introduce this complex, detailed and mineral-tinged red, which is heady, yet juicy and harmonious, so much so you want to drink this now. The dense matrix of tannins suggests this will develop beautifully over the next two decades.
A fine bright mid purple, this displays the proper elegance of Volnay. I keep returning to the heady, floral nose here. This is beautifully made, balanced, with a charm and a refreshing style. Fine detail, though the ripeness of the fruit does become more evident. A very long finish.
