The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cazetiers comes from the top of the slope of white marl soils. It has a floral bouquet with wilted rose petals infusing the light but pretty red berry fruit profile - a hint of vanilla emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening. There is a crisp line of acidity here and a pleasant grip on the back palate – a Cazetiers that does not necessarily want to be consumed as early in its life as its fellow Premier Crus. This is very well-crafted and expressive, the saline aftertaste urging another sip.
Quite dark and blackish next to Clos St-Jacques. Intense but a slight lack of freshness. Dull finish even though there is fruit concentration here.
