The 2012 Le Montrachet Grand Cru comes from grapes sourced from two parcels on the Puligny-Montrachet from Baron Thenard. The nose is actually quite similar to the Chevalier-Montrachet. It takes time to unfurl, offering flint, wet pavement and green apple with time. Strict and correct. The palate is well-balanced with a harmonious opening, the acidity very well-judged. It is very linear, very mineral, although following on from the Chevalier; you end up yearning for its feistiness. Still, this is a fine Montrachet that does not quite leave you quivering with anticipation like the Chevalier-Montrachet, nor indeed the Les Perrieres.
