Unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, crisp yellow orchard fruit, toasted hazelnuts and buttery pastry, the 2022 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière is medium to full-bodied, with a fleshy and layered core of fruit girdled by racy acids, concluding with a long, chalky finish.
The 2022 Saint-Aubin La Chatenière 1er Cru, a blend of three different parcels, is quite closed on the nose despite rigorous coaxing. A touch of reduction is at play, with crushed oyster shell and kelp-like scents percolating through the malic fruit. The palate is well-balanced with a concentrated opening. This feels like a grippy, weighty Saint-Aubin, perhaps without quite the nuance of the 2021, yet it feels reassuringly persistent on the finish.
Pretty and layered aromas of pear and apple compote display additional nuances of zest, spice and an all but invisible touch of wood. There is a bit less volume and even finer texture to the stony, delicious and intense medium weight flavors that deliver fine length on the balanced, clean and dry finale that is just a bit more complex. This is lovely plus it's a wine that should drink well young as well as with mid-term keeping.
A lovely lively colour, lemon and lime, with something of a quality reduction on the nose. Then opens out, with more flesh behind. This is extremely classy, very PYCM in style with an extra generosity from this sunny site in a sunny vintage. Excellent balanced aftertaste.
