Coming from a vineyard originally planted in 1984, the 2022 Rondevlei Chenin Blanc is expressive, fresh and complex, with fantastic concentration and impeccable weight and depth. Medium-bodied, the Chenin Blanc offers a delightfully spicy mineral essence across the mid-palate with notions of spiced lemon rind and yellow apple skin before ending with a balanced finish. It's a fantastic wine with more than a decade of life left. Enjoy with food.
Chamomile, pineapples, hints of pine cone and lemons on the nose. Medium-bodied with a creamy, almost oily texture while retaining fantastic freshness. Bright, tight finish. Drink or hold.
Full bottle 1,324 g. From a vineyard planted in 1984 (the same year that both David and Nadia were born). It is the second vintage that they have released as a single-vineyard wine, from an arid plain to the west of Malmesbury. It is the only double-row vineyard that they work with. This vineyard was harvested on four picking dates from the end of January to the second week of February, and all four lots were kept separate. One-third of the wine was fermented and aged in a concrete egg, the rest of the wine was fermented and matured in barrel before blending at the end of the year. The wine qualifies for the Certified Heritage Vineyards (CHV) seal and forms part of the Old Vine Project (OVP). Total production 1,859 bottles.
Deep greenish gold. Attractive pungent smokiness on the nose and then svelte fruit. Mouth-filling and much more forward than Plat'bos, for instance. Already a charming, very pure drink with or without food. (JR)
The 2022 Chenin Blanc Rondevlei comes from vines planted in 1984, and 40% of the blend was aged in concrete egg, the remainder in used barrels. It has a lovely nose, really complex, with marmalade and touches of aniseed and blackcurrant leaf. Very delineated and pure. The palate is very well-balanced with a crisp line of acidity, lemony and tensile, with an energetic, quite sustained finish. One of my picks from David & Nadia this vintage.
