The 2022 Ried Kollmitz Riesling Smaragd has a clear, aromatic nose of ripe and cooked white peach and yellow plums and is intense, spicy and persistent on the palate, with a healthy phenolic structure and stimulating salinity on the finish. This is a very attractive and fresh Jochinger Riesling that is already drinking very well, but it also has potential.
Joching. Facing south-east at 236–363 m elevation. Paragneiss with carbonate.
Pure grapefruit and meadow flowers. Juicy palate with sleek acidity and charming concentration. Lime peel and rock salt. An absolute and impressive joy and further proof that it is possible to dance in the Wachau. (PS)
The2022 Riesling Kollmitz Smaragd is from the top of this late-ripening site, on a plateau where it is difficult to reach Smaragd level ripeness. Fragrant notions of crushed citrus foliage present a subtle perfume, suffusing bright, juicy stone fruit. The palate is linear and luminous, showing pristine Mirabelle flesh edged with supple, juicy and mouth-watering lemon. This is a very bright, smooth, long Riesling that turns its intensity into smooth, linear, serenity, stretched against a lovely phenolic web. (Bone-dry)
