Enveloping nose of super-ripe peaches and apricots with notes of mangoes and pineapple, but there's nothing loud about this gentle giant. I love the way the considerable power of this wine is underplayed and the deep minerality restrains this site's tendency to opulence. From two hectares of vines that are up to 70 years old. The 2022 Riesling Brand Grand Cru is a wine first made in 2017 from around 65-year-old vines in the Oberer Eichberg parcel of the Brand. The nose is citric and stony, alive with the clarity of citrus, with dried and fresh lemon taking turns to dazzle. More air brings a creamy smile of apricot. The palate is unmitigated. It wants to be austere, but that lovely apricot notion keeps reminding us of ripeness with lovely charm, yet none of the directness and nakedness of the stone goes unnoticed. The 2022 is taut, naked, stony and almost austere with vivid, salty freshness. (Bone-Dry)
