The 2019 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru has turned out brilliantly. Soaring from the glass with scents of raspberries, peonies, blood orange, licorice, sweet spices and rose petals, it's full-bodied, layered and complete, with a velvety attack that segues into a vibrant, multidimensional mid-palate that's framed by melting tannins and succulent acids. Concluding with a long, perfumed finish, this is a sensational wine that will offer a broad drinking window thanks to the charming profile of the vintage.
15% whole bunch, the first to be picked and there was not enough volume to fill its usual vat: 26 hl/ha when they were expecting much more. The degree came out at 14.2%, with ripe stems. Deep imperial purple, rich chunky fruit, powerful stuff, almost takes it out of usual Ruchottes territory as it hides the latticework. Still a very good, if powerful wine. Fine quality of fruit with only a touch of heat to finish. Persistent.
