The 2024 growing season in Côte de Beaune was harsh. Cool and rainy weather persisted from spring through summer, creating a constant threat of downy mildew; only those winemakers who kept their vineyards clean were able to produce grapes suitable for harvest. In Vincent Girardin's “Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vieilles Vignes 2024,” the old vines played a key role. Thanks to deep roots, low natural yields, and hand-selection both in the vineyard and in the cellar, the resulting Chardonnay is distinguished not so much by opulence as by a certain intensity. Compared to the 2022 and 2023 vintages, which exhibit pronounced maturity, this Chassagne can be expected to offer a more restrained and tension-filled palate. Aromas of citrus and chalk come to the fore, while the heaviness in the mid-palate characteristic of wines from this village is restrained. The wine can be enjoyed starting in 2028, and its aging potential extends through 2042.
