Tête du Clos 2022 is Vincent Dancer's white Premier Cru from Chassagne-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune; it is produced from a walled vineyard situated within the larger Morgeot cru. The soil here is rocky and light in color, leading the wine to lean toward a style that is taut and prominently mineral-driven, rather than the broad, full-bodied style typical of Chassagne. The vines, planted in 1954, play their part too. Since only a few other producers bottle Tête du Clos, there are few wines with which to compare it.
Winemaking follows a non-interventionist approach: natural yeasts are used, no additives are added, malolactic fermentation is allowed to proceed naturally, and no bâtonnage (stirring of the lees) is performed. After aging in barrel for 17 months, the blended wine is transferred to stainless steel tanks for an additional 5 to 6 months of aging before bottling.
Following a wet June, 2022 saw a hot and dry summer across the entire Burgundy region, with longer-than-usual hours of sunshine and a healthy-sized crop. Thanks to well-timed rainfall, the white wines developed a crisp, refreshing flavor rather than a heavy one. The Tête du Clos exhibits a sense of concentration while maintaining lively acidity, offering a crisp, distinct flavor rather than an oily mouthfeel. It is best enjoyed between 2025 and 2046.
