Morgeot is a well known vineyard in the Premier Cru class at Chassagne-Montrachet, and this Vincent Dancer's 2022 is a Burgundy white wine from this vineyard, made exclusively from the Chardonnay variety grown in Côte de Beaune. The wine was produced during a warm vintage. The winemakers noted that the seasonal average temperature exceeded the all-time record by approximately 1.5 °C, and sunshine hours increased by about one month's worth; thanks to rainfall in June, the vines retained enough moisture to survive the hot, dry summer without their leaves wilting. The harvest was healthy and quite bountiful, and it began early. Some farms in the region had finished harvesting before August ended.
All of this is reflected in the glass. The 2022 Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot possesses the richness characteristic of a warm vintage, yet acidity is distinctly present, and it is precisely this aspect that makes this year's wine intriguing, rather than merely ripe. Thanks to extended aging on the lees with minimal use of new oak barrels, the fruit notes and the subtle saltiness characteristic of the Morgeot terroir stand out, rather than woody aromas.
This wine is best enjoyed by 2036.
