Robert Parker (93)

Showing ripe fruit and delicately sweet cherry notes typical of Sangiovese, the organic Máté 2021 Brunello di Montalcino delivers a contemporary expression with added textural weight and volume. Aging for 36 months in French oak using a mix of medium and large formats lends extra heft and polish, though balanced freshness keeps the wine lifted and avoids any sense of heaviness. The overall profile offers immediacy without sacrificing structure. Production totals 9,970 bottles.

James Suckling (94)

This is perfumed on the nose, offering dried cherries, raspberries, cedar and hints of licorice. Medium- to full-bodied with firm yet polished tannins and fresh acidity. Linear and controlled, showing clarity and tension through the tightly wound finish. From organically grown grapes. Better from 2028.

Just mid ruby. Stalky and a little herbal at first, opening to sour cherry and raspberry. Aeration reveals a well-composed nose with hints of cinnamon bark from oak, subtly done. Elegant, almost a little nervy, with sweet raspberry fruit on the palate and supple acidity. Finely ground tannins on the long raspberry finish with lots of cinnamon notes from oak. Walter Speller

Vinous (91)

The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is mineral in style, with crushed rocks and dried herbs mingling with perfumed violet flowers and citrus-tinged cherries. Crisp and nearly crunchy in feel, it possesses soft textures and brisk acidity as tart red fruits saturate the palate. This wine displays exceptional length and a coating of fine tannins, tapering off potent yet still fresh.

Falstaff (94)

Medium-dense ruby, radiant. Finely drawn nose with notes of sour cherry and cranberries, ginger in the background, delicate overall. Crisp entry on the palate, lots of juicy sour cherry and blood orange, grippy tannins, a little rustic, but tasty.
