Saint-Romain 2022 Louis Billard

2022 marked Louis Billard's debut vintage, and he immediately introduced this wine in “Villages” appellations throughout the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. There was neither a gradual rise in prominence nor a “shadow year” to serve as a baseline. This wine, made from Chardonnay grapes from Saint-Romain, one of Burgundy’s relatively cool and high-altitude appellations, has acquired a rich fullness thanks to the warm growing season of 2022, without losing the tension characteristic of Saint-Romain. Whole-cluster pressing, fermentation on the lees in barrels, and aging in a combination of new and used barrels. Review by BOW. One can expect refinement rather than power from this wine.
