2023 was a bountiful vintage for Burgundy. Thanks to a warm summer, the harvest was plentiful and healthy, requiring careful selection of the grapes in the vineyards. For Louis Biar’s “Pommard-les-Fremier 1er cru,” the Pinot Noir grape was selected, having ripened on the clay-rich slopes of Pommard. It is precisely this soil that gives this village its more intense and robust red wines. One might expect the Frémier to possess massiveness and a solid structure; however, thanks to Mr. Biar’s restrained craftsmanship, this power is skillfully balanced. Furthermore, this wine vividly reflects the experience gained at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
