Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 2018, a blend of Les Chatelots and Les Feusselottes, two Premier Cru parcels, is a red Burgundy produced by Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron from Côte de Nuits. Of course, it's Pinot Noir. The vines here are approximately 45 to 65 years old, which is reflected in concentrated flavors rather than body. This wine is aged in oak barrels for 15 to 18 months, half of which are new oak barrels.
The year 2018 was a rare one for Burgundy growers, delivering both quality and quantity. Thanks to a rainy winter and spring, the soil was well-hydrated, and a warm, sunny summer followed, allowing the grapes to ripen well without any major difficulties. The harvest took place under clear blue skies amid sweltering heat around 30°C. The abundant rainfall and warm temperatures account for this vintage's richness, which, in Chambolle-Musigny, manifests as ripe red fruit aromas layered over the delicate tannins characteristic of this appellation.
Confuron's red wine is made for long-term aging and is initially dense and closed. It is best enjoyed through 2038. Both Burghound and Jasper Morris reviewed this bottling.
