Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru 2023 is a white Burgundy from Jean-Claude Ramonet, grown from 100% Chardonnay grapes off deep brown limestone and silt of the Côte de Beaune region, situated on a southeast-facing slope. The average age of the vines is 47 years.
The harvest took place in two stages on the 7th and 14th of September, 2023, resulting in a production of 2,930 bottles. The quantity is therefor small.
The entire grape clusters were placed in a press and gently pressed for 2 hours and 30 minutes. Aging took place for 18 months in 450-liter French oak barrels, toasted at low temperature over a long period; there was no racking or stirring of the lees. By minimizing intervention, the oak flavors were reduced and further highlighted the vineyard's inherent character.
Pierre Ramonet founded this winery in 1930, and the family's style still prioritizes a restrained approach in the cellar over showy techniques.
It is best enjoyed between 2026 and 2038. While it is fine to drink now after decanting for about an hour, bottle aging will further enhance the wine's quality.
