Filetta di Lamole 2022 is a Chianti Classico DOCG made entirely from Sangiovese from Fontodi's highlands, located in Lamole, all at an elevation of approximately 600 meters. The 7-hectare Macigno sandstone, a loose, permeable rock, is situated on a south-southwest-facing slope with cool nighttime temperatures and a long ripening period. Wines produced from this vineyard can turn out slender. However, that was not the case in 2022.
While the growing season across the Chianti Classico region was marked by heatwaves and drought, rain in mid-August stabilized the harvest. At this elevation, the heat was less of a problem and more of an advantage, adding richness to wines that are typically characterized by a delicate structure and liveliness. Aromas of violets and black currants, along with flavors of licorice and dried herbs, are present, and the 14% alcohol content blends well with the firm, fresh tannins.
The wine is vinified in concrete tanks and then aged for 18 to 24 months in large oak barrels rather than small barriques. This results in subtle oak notes that allow the Sangiovese's natural fruit flavors to shine through clearly. Like all of Fontodi's vineyards, this vineyard is also cultivated using organic methods.
Serve at 16-18°C. Best enjoyed through 2036.
