The “Champerrier Vieilles Vignes 2024” wine from Domaine Tortochot is made from grapes grown on old vines planted in Gevrey-Chambertin in the 1920s. This estate, managed by Chantal Michel-Tortochot, has been certified organic since 2013, and the 2024 vintage is produced using the same methods as all of her “Villages” wines. Specifically, this involves low-temperature maceration at around 10 °C, the use of natural yeasts, and gentle pneumatic pressing. Approximately 25% new barrels are used in the production of “Villages” wines. It is recommended to enjoy this wine between 2026 and 2036.
Much, much darker and deeper crimson than the Champeaux or even her Chambertin! Slight whiff of old socks. But then impressive black-cherry fruit. Followed by pretty marked acidity. A demanding wine that demands quite a bit of time. (JR)
The 2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Champerrier Vieilles Vignes has a fragrant red cherry and wild strawberry-scented bouquet with veins of blue fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with light, supple tannins. Simple red fruit with light grip, but it dips before the finish line. Early drinking.
