Limozin is a village-level climat located on the slopes of Meursault, and the 2022 bottling from Domaine Henri Germain is a white Burgundy wine that emphasizes tension over body. As with all the white wines from this region, this is Chardonnay.
The summer of 2022 was the second hottest in the Burgundy region since 2003, but unlike 2003, 2022 brought rain at just the right time. A heavy downpour at the end of June brought nearly 20 centimeters of rain, which was more than enough to sustain the vines for quite some time. By early August, the vines began to show signs of water stress. Time was the factor that maintained the balance. It took over 100 days from flowering to harvest, compared to about 90 days in other recent hot years. Sugar levels rose, while acidity was well maintained.
This combination comes through clearly in the glass. While it offers aromas of ripe orchard fruit, it is characterized by a saline lift and a firm finish, unlike the broad, buttery, and somtimes more pronounced flavors of Meursault. Furthermore, since Limozin is classified as a Village-level wine, its fruit aromas are more straightforward and less layered than those of this winery's Premier Crus.
That year, the harvest began early, and production was abundant compared to the poor yields of 2021. It is best enjoyed by 2036. Serve at around 12°C.
