The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Chevrières 1er Cru comes from very poor soils (where presumably goats once roamed). It has a Zen-like bouquet, neutral in style, rocky with fleeting touches of Granny Smiths. The palate is well-balanced with a judicious use of demi-muids from Stockinger. With a touch of white chocolate and praline, it dovetails into a lightly spiced finish that lingers in the mouth. This is an excellent follow-up to the impressive 2021.
Mostly Chevrières, on red soil with iron oxide, with a bit of Les Robees which has been subsumed into the 1er Cru. Almost straight on the hard rock, conditions which can dry out in hot years, and regularly gives little millerand grapes. All made in 600 litre demi-muids. More tension, ripe lemons, freshly baked apples, very persistent. Good acidity and excellent energy.
