The year 2023 in the Northern Rhône was warm, and although there was some stress caused by drought, timely rains in late summer mitigated its effects and prevented the Syrah grapes from overripening. Paul Jabre-Aine’s “La Chapelle” wine is made from grapes harvested on the granite slopes of the Hermitage hill, which means that this year’s berries reached sufficient ripeness while retaining good acidity. As a result, the 2023 vintage is characterized more by richness than by austerity. Compared to the taut 2021 vintage, one can expect a denser and more open flavor profile; this wine has a structure capable of withstanding long-term aging, yet it allows one to fully enjoy its fruity charm even when young.
