Domaine Clos de la Chapelle
The home of Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is the village of Volnay in Burgundy. The winery's name comes from the historic Clos de la Chapelle vineyard. This parcel is located right in front of the chapel of the former castle of the Dukes of Burgundy.
In addition to the Clos plot, the winery owns a number of small vineyards. These plots are all Premier or Grand Cru certified and are spread over Volnay, Pommard, Beaune and the Corton Hill. At Clos de la Chapelle, it’s all about organic and biodynamic viticulture. It is important that the wines express their specific terroir as much as possible. Each wine has its own unique character! Corton-Charlemagne and Corton-Bressandes are the two Grand Cru wines of Domaine Clos La Chapelle.
For the first few vintages, all bunches were completely destemmed. Today, just 25% of all bunches are fermented in their entirety. The vinification starts with a cold maceration of the skins for an average of one week. To get the fermentation going, only native yeast cultures are used. After fermentation, the wines are transferred to barriques, which consist for 30% of medium toasted new French oak. The wines are not clarified or filtered before bottling. Pure, elegant and complex; that is how we would describe the wines of Domaine Clos de La Chapelle. Only 1,500 cases of wine are produced each year. So, each cuvée is very limited.
