For Pauillac, 2002 was a great vintage for Cabernet Sauvignon. A harsh summer was followed by a dry and sunny September, which saved the harvest. Cabernet Sauvignon, which ripens late on Lafite’s sandy-gravel soils, benefited particularly from this. Merlot struggled that year, so the blend vividly highlights the true essence of Lafite.
Château Lafite Rothschild 2002 is a classic Pauillac with cool, refreshing notes. It has a robust structure and a restrained character, with its aroma dominated by hints of cedar and graphite rather than notes of ripe fruit. This wine can be enjoyed until 2039.
