Rutherford Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a red wine from Beaulieu Vineyard, known as Napa Valley Cabernet, and was grown in the Rutherford region, where this vineyard has been located since the early 20th century. It is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with Petit Verdot and Malbec supporting it.

The year 2019 presented California growers with a long growing season. A rainy winter and a cool spring caused delayed budbreak in most of the Napa Valley region, and the harvest in many parts of California began 1 to 2 weeks later than usual. Thanks to the warm and mild summer that followed, phenolic ripeness (the maturity of tannins, skins, and seeds, as opposed to sugar content) progressed gradually. The grapes exhibited lower sugar levels than those produced in hot years, while retaining their fresh acidity.

This combination is clearly evident in the glass. The 2019 vintage features a solid structure rather than an exaggerated character. It harmoniously blends dark fruit, firm tannins, and sufficient acidity to prevent it from feeling heavy. Across the valley, the 2019 Cabernets were widely praised for its classic style; while it can be enjoyed early, it also possesses the structure necessary for long-term aging.

Not every Napa vintage manages to achieve both of these qualities. But this vintage did.
