the broad and expressive 2017 Iron Syrah has opulent black fruit, cracked peppercorn and red minerality. The palate is more accessible now compared to the 2016 vintage of the same bottling, which will need time to come around. The 2017 is excellent and has a complex nature to the palate, expressing well for a full-bodied wine. The finish is long, contemplative and ends on a good, round tannic note. The Syrah range from Mullineux has always expressed the terroir from which they spring.
The firm tannic structure lends plenty of support to the plum compote and bright cherry flavors, hints of star anise and accents of clove and floral. The finish is long and promising. Tight and chewy at the moment, but you can spot the aging potential by digging deeper. Best from 2023 through 2035.
